Job summary

Amazon is seeking a modeling engineer to build and own high-fidelity C++ models of AI/ML accelerators and SoCs used in AWS ML clusters. You will translate architecture specs and RTL behavior into testable models and validate against RTL or silicon measurements.

You will collaborate with design verification, architects, ML software, and compiler engineers to explore architecture trades and drive model-to-RTL correlation. This is an on-site role in Cupertino, CA or Austin, TX.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of full software development life cycle across coding standards, reviews, source control, build, test, and operations.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
• 6+ years writing functional or performance models of hardware (SoCs, ASICs, GPUs, CPUs, IP blocks).
• Experience programming in C++, using advanced language features.
• Knowledge of SoC, CPU, GPU, and/or ASIC architecture and micro-architecture.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high-fidelity functional models of AI/ML accelerators and SoC subsystems.
• Validate model behavior against RTL simulations, emulation, or silicon measurements.
• Partner with design verification teams to integrate models into pre-silicon validation environments.
• Collaborate with architects, RTL design engineers, ML SW engineers, and compiler engineers on architecture tradeoffs.
• Contribute to cycle-approximate performance modeling for architectural exploration ahead of RTL availability.
• Quantify system-level tradeoffs across compute, memory bandwidth, networking, and storage to influence silicon strategy.
• Build and improve modeling infrastructure: simulation frameworks, regression suites, automated correlation checks, and coverage-driven validation flows.
• Develop methodologies and tools that scale across IP blocks and SoC generations.
