Job summary

Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company invites currently-enrolled undergraduates in West Des Moines to join its 2027 Summer Internship Program. This paid internship runs May 17–Aug 6, up to 40 hours per week, with potential to transition to a full-time position.

Responsibilities include AI-driven software work using Python, Codex, IntelliJ, and Azure AI. You’ll preprocess data, test AI systems, and collaborate within AI Agile and Info Security teams.

Qualifications

• Currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior pursuing CS/Data Science/MIS; AI minor preferred.
• Exposure to Python required; familiarity with AWS and AI frameworks a plus.
• Exposure to Codex, IntelliJ, and Microsoft Copilot ecosystem welcome.

Responsibilities

• Fine-tunes prompts and AI models for business applications.
• Performs data preprocessing, analysis, and validation to support AI development.
• Tests, debugs, and maintains AI systems and related tools.
• Researches and experiments with emerging AI technologies for business opportunities.
• Designs, develops, and maintains software using Python, Codex, IntelliJ, Azure AI.

Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines, IA) is currently looking for a qualified undergraduate to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program.This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 17 through Friday, August 6, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future.

We are looking for currently-enrolled college students who are close to the West Des Moines area, as this is not a remote internship.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university, majoring in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS or related technical field. A minor or focus on AI is highly preferred.

Skills: Exposure to Python (required), familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, basic infrastructure concepts, or AI frameworks (such as LangChain, TensorFlow, PyTorch) is a plus.Exposure to AI enabled coding platforms such as Codex and IntelliJ.Familiarity with Microsoft CoPilot ecosystem of tools preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Fine-tunes prompts and models to optimize AI-driven business applications.
• Performs data preprocessing, analysis, and validation to support AI development and integration.
• Assists in testing, debugging, and maintaining AI systems and related tools.
• Researches, evaluates, and experiments with emerging AI technologies to identify opportunities for business use.
• Designs, develops, and maintains software solutions primarily using Python, Codex, IntelliJ, Azure AI and related technologies.
• Analyzes and interprets business and technical requirements to inform system design and functionality.
• Develops and maintains technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborates effectively with team members (AI Agile Team) and cross-functional groups (Information Security) to support ongoing initiatives
