Job summary

OpenAI in San Francisco seeks a Technical Program Manager to lead capacity planning for AI infrastructure. You will translate workloads into infrastructure requirements, manage schedules, and align cross‑functional teams across research, engineering, finance, sourcing, and operations.

You will build planning models, dashboards, and governance processes to reveal capacity risk, availability, and activation priorities, enabling decisive action as demand grows.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in technical program management or capacity planning.
• Experience with large-scale cloud infrastructure or AI workloads.
• Ability to translate uncertain demand into executable plans.
• Fluency across compute, networking, storage, and data center factors.
• Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision making.
• Experience guiding engineering, finance, sourcing, deployment, and exec stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Own capacity-planning processes across near-term workload allocation, quarterly execution, and longer-range horizons.
• Translate research, training, inference, and product demand into compute, accelerator, cluster, networking, storage, rack, power, and site requirements.
• Develop scenarios with assumptions, confidence levels, constraints, and decision points.
• Reconcile requested demand against contracted, delivered, installed, activated, and usable capacity.
• Partner with research and engineering teams to understand workload priorities and dependencies.
• Align supply commitments, activation schedules, costs, and delivery risks with sourcing and operations.
• Support allocation decisions when infrastructure is constrained or plans change.
• Track lead times, dependencies, utilization, headroom, forecast accuracy, and capacity risk.
• Build dashboards and governance cadences that provide a credible source of truth.
• Drive mitigation plans for delays, shortages, or capacity constraints.
• Improve planning models and data quality as OpenAI scales.
