Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 3 (AI Foundations) to join the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences team. The role focuses on designing, building, and optimizing AI-powered products and scalable AI infrastructure across Capital One's platforms.

The candidate will work with a cross-functional team to advance foundational AI systems, including model training, inference, governance, and observability, using Open Source and SaaS technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in CS/AI/EE/CE or related field.
• 3+ years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or 1 year with a Master’s degree.
• 3+ years of Python/Java/CUDA/Scala programming experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training and LLM inference.
• Lead multi-turn conversational and tool-using agent workflows with measurable performance and safety metrics.
• Implement scalable pipelines for training, fine-tuning, and deploying models across environments.
• Collaborate with research and data engineering teams to curate datasets and improve model evaluation methodologies.
