Job summary

Georgetown University’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) seeks a National Security Applications of AI Research Lead to shape priorities, guide research, and manage a growing team of researchers and affiliates in Washington, DC. The role interfaces with funders, policymakers, and media, translating complex AI/ML insights into policy-relevant guidance.

The ideal candidate brings senior analytic experience, a robust DC security policy network, and a proven ability to lead research

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in a relevant field.
• At least 5 years of public service in senior roles OR 10 years in progressive private sector roles.
• Significant experience in analytic/operations research within a national security-focused organization.
• Well-established network across DC's national security policy community.
• Ability to conduct research, write, brief, and manage others with limited supervision.
• Experience in policy-making, R&D leadership, or analysis is desirable.
• Significant project or team management experience.
• Comfort working in a matrixed environment.
• Mentoring and creating an inclusive environment for employees.
• Experience coaching junior analysts/researchers.

Responsibilities

• Lead a research area portfolio and strategic priorities for National Security Applications of AI.
• Oversee execution of research and production of reports; engage with funders.
• Mentor, supervise, and manage Research Fellows, Analysts, and Support staff.
• Coordinate with CSET Data Science Team for data needs and risk management.
• Present findings to policymakers and brief public audiences; participate in events.
