Job summary

RAND Corporation's CAST invites applications for a Senior Research Lead overseeing the AI Security Portfolio. You will shape a demanding research agenda, lead two major teams, and ensure AI systems are secure, safe, and aligned with national security priorities.

You will report to the CAST Founding Director and guide researchers across 15+ staff, translating complex findings for policymakers and industry leaders while engaging with national security stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Technical leadership in AI security, cybersecurity engineering, or related fields.
• Proven success leading large multi-disciplinary programs and budgets.
• Experience translating technical findings for policymakers and industry.
• Strong written and verbal communication; familiar with U.S. cybersecurity policy processes.
• Ability to obtain U.S. government clearance (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Define and drive RAND's research agenda on secure AI systems.
• Lead cross-functional projects spanning R&D, cybersecurity, and policy analysis.
• Mentor senior researchers and project leaders across 15–30 staff.
• Translate findings into actionable insights for policymakers and industry.
• Represent RAND at technical and policy forums.
