Toptal is seeking a Chief Technology Officer to drive the product and engineering teams and put AI at the core of everything the company builds. You will own Toptal's full technical architecture and you will build it AI-first—utilizing best practices for agentic engineering.

AI is not a workstream inside the engineer team—its core to it. You will create and own the AI architecture and best practices the rest of the company utilizes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required, and an advanced degree is strongly preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive engineering leadership, including CTO/VP-level experience or equivalent scale.
• Deep hands-on command of modern AI engineering: foundation models, agentic architectures, harness design, retrieval and evaluation.
• Experience deploying agentic systems at scale with measurable outcomes on cost, time, quality or revenue.
• Rigorous evaluation processes with clear evidence of improvements and outcomes.
• Strong economics understanding: model routing, inference capacity, latency, and cost budgets.
• Proven ability to create strategy, lead across remote teams, and raise the bar for engineering talent.

Responsabilités

• Own Toptal's AI technology strategy and the architecture beneath it.
• Deploy agentic engineering at scale across business workflows.
• Make AI quality measurable with evals and regression suites.
• Rebuild the platform to raise output per engineer via AI-assisted development.
• Own resourcing and workforce planning, writing specs and hiring commitments.
• Lead the engineering team, set standards, and ensure delivery.
