Job summary

Navy Federal Credit Union's AI Engineering team in Vienna, VA is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to design scalable AI systems, harness LLMs, and build secure data pipelines. You will collaborate across teams to implement RAG, ensure governance, and drive enterprise AI initiatives with robust model documentation and secure deployment practices.

This role requires strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, plus hands-on experience with Python, SQL/NoSQL, and modern cloud

Qualifications

• 2–5 years building AI solutions, including AI agents and chatbots.
• Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to ground models in facts and reduce hallucinations.
• Experience with API development and RESTful services for connecting models to apps.
• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning.
• Experience with NLP including tokenization, embeddings, and conversational AI.
• Frontend and backend development using React, Angular, Node.js, Django or Flask.
• Experience building data pipelines with Databricks or similar.
• Experience with vector and graph databases for semantic search and recommendations.
• Governance, security, and compliance in AI deployments.
• Strong CI/CD, Git, and Agile methodologies.
• Ability to work from requirements and communicate progress clearly.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to AI platform engineering within the AI Center for Enablement (C4E).
• Develop AI capabilities using LLMs and evaluate outcomes for accuracy and safety.
• Build and manage data pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Implement RAG and other techniques to improve model accuracy and reduce hallucinations.
• Ensure AI governance and secure deployment of models.
• Collaborate across teams in Agile CI/CD cycles for rapid delivery.
• Assist with documentation and registration of AI/ML roadmaps and technical plans.
• Support AI-assisted coding tools and developer productivity initiatives.

Education

Bachelor's degree in AI Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Data Engineering, or related technical field
