Job summary

DESRI in New York seeks an AI Engineer (Analyst/Associate) to design, build and deploy AI applications for our renewable energy business. You will own end-to-end projects from scoping with stakeholders to production deployment and adoption, balancing front-end and back-end work with data pipelines in Azure.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, engineering, data science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or a related quantitative field.
• Two+ years of software development experience, including building an AI-enabled application from prototype through production.
• Experience deploying a machine learning model to production, including data cleaning and pipeline work.
• Experience owning a product across both front end and back end; full-stack role.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, and hands-on experience with LLMs, model APIs, retrieval, and evaluation.
• Experience with Azure cloud platforms including databases, data warehouses, data pipelines, and production deployment.
• Strong commercial judgment and ability to learn unfamiliar domains quickly and prioritize by business value.
• Experience and commercial context in renewable energy, utilities, energy markets, or EPC construction is highly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable driving change with non-technical users.
• Comfort with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and fast pace.
• Compensation considerations based on location and experience; base salary estimated between $100,000 and $130,000 annually.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy AI applications from prototype through production for commercial and technical teams across the business.
• Work closely with a business team, learn its workflow, and decide what to build, defer, or solve with existing tools.
• Drive adoption of each tool through change management, training, documentation, and iteration.
• Clean, structure, and manage data across databases, data warehouses, and internal systems; integrate with vendor platforms and APIs.
• Build and maintain data pipelines and deployment infrastructure on Azure; manage databases, storage, and hosting.
• Build and maintain rigorous testing and evaluation for every application; diagnose multi-step workflows failures.
• Design prompts, tools, and retrieval so language-model applications produce accurate results.
• Create reliable automated workflows from rule-based logic to model-based approaches as data supports it.
• Develop forecasting and predictive models with explanations suitable for business audiences.
• Help teams document institutional knowledge for reuse across the business.
• Contribute to build-versus-buy decisions and evaluation of new AI tools.
• This role is not a data engineering, IT, or enterprise platform administration role.
