Zions Bancorporation is looking for an AI Engineer (Data Scientist) to design, build, and deploy production-grade AI solutions that support real business use cases. In this role, you will work end-to-end, from development and deployment to monitoring and continuous improvement, applying Generative AI, machine learning, and software engineering best practices.
This onsite position is based at the Zions Technology Center in Midvale, UT, a large technology campus designed to support a modern, collaborative work environment.
What you will do
- Design, build, and deploy AI solutions, including Generative AI and machine learning models, to address business problems.
- Develop agentic AI systems using LLM orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar tooling.
- Create and maintain production-ready AI services and components with a focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists, product teams, and business stakeholders to turn requirements into scalable AI and ML solutions.
- Build and maintain AI/ML pipelines spanning data ingestion, prompt engineering, model inference, evaluation, and monitoring.
- Apply MLOps best practices including CI/CD, versioning, observability, and model and prompt lifecycle management.
- Work with both structured and unstructured data, including integrations with relational databases and vector databases for retrieval augmented generation (RAG).
- Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field plus 2+ years of relatable experience.
- Master’s degree is a plus.
- Strong software engineering background with experience contributing to production systems.
- Excellent Python skills, including async programming and API development (FastAPI, Flask, or similar).
- Hands‑on experience building Generative AI / LLM‑based applications in production environments.
- Familiarity with LLM orchestration and agentic AI frameworks (for example, LangChain, LangGraph, or similar concepts).
- Familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch and scikit‑learn.
- Experience integrating vector databases and search/index systems for AI applications.
- Good understanding of prompt engineering, model evaluation, and inference optimization.
- Experience deploying AI/ML solutions on cloud platforms (GCP preferred; Azure or AWS).
- Working knowledge of MLOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Strong problem‑solving and clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort working collaboratively in a fast‑moving environment while owning deliverables end‑to‑end.
- Agentic workflow, tool‑calling systems, or multi‑agent architecture experience is a plus.
- Containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

This role is fully in office (5 days a week) at the Zions Technology Center, 7860 South Bingham Junction Blvd, Midvale, UT 84047.
The Zions Technology Center is a 400,000-square-foot technology campus in Midvale, Utah, with electric vehicle charging stations and close proximity to Historic Gardner Village UTA TRAX station. At least 75% of the building is powered by on‑site renewable solar energy, and the site includes access to outdoor recreation, parks, trails, shareable bikes, and locker rooms. The building also includes a large modern cafe, an indoor environment with ample natural light and fresh air, and LEED-certified sustainable design with low VOC-emitting construction materials.
