Job summary

Unusual Ventures in the San Francisco Bay Area is hiring its first AI Engineer to build internal systems that scale the firm’s operations. You will own the tech stack, choose the right tools, and ship practical, high-leverage solutions used daily by partners and portfolio teams.

You’ll work across the firm—from investing to platform and founder services—driving impact with hands-on ownership and direct access to partners. This is a builder role focused on meaningful, durable improvements.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of software engineering experience with 1–2 years shipping LLM-powered products or internal tools
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong Python; comfortable across the stack from data pipelines to front end
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, retrieval, agents/tools, and evaluation
• Product-minded: talk to users, identify real problems, ship small, iterate
• Experience with messy real-world data (CRMs, mail, calendars, etc.)
• Clear communicator who can explain tradeoffs to non-technical partners

Responsibilities

• Build talent intelligence pipelines to find, enrich, and rank engineering and GTM talent.
• Develop sourcing tools surfacing promising companies and founders early; intelligent research assistants.
• Create diligence workflows speeding market maps, competitive analysis, and memo drafting.
• Make firm knowledge searchable and usable from existing conversations, memos, and playbooks.
• Automate portfolio reporting and back-office processes in collaboration with finance teams.
• Provide portfolio support through reusable AI playbooks across companies.
