Job summary

Wintermeyer Ventures is seeking a backend and infrastructure engineer to build AI systems and the infra that powers creative design tools. You’ll work across agent systems, data pipelines, search, and inference infrastructure to make subjective qualities measurable and useful.

You’ll implement embedding and retrieval pipelines, crawling at scale, and set up inference serving and client-facing APIs while collaborating on security reviews and robust tooling. On-site in San Francisco, CA.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend or infrastructure experience in AI systems, agents or ML pipelines.
• Strong Python skills with cloud infra and CI/CD experience.
• Experience building crawling and embedding pipelines with retrieval and search systems.
• Experience developing AI-forward products, data generation and collection systems, and evaluation pipelines.
• Degree in computer science or a related technical field.
• Ability to solve ambiguous problems with pragmatic approaches.

About the Role

Build backend AI systems and infrastructure for a generative AI company focused on helping models and agents produce higher-quality creative and design work. You will work across agent systems, data pipelines, search, and inference infrastructure to make subjective qualities more measurable and useful.

What You'll Do

• Build agent harnesses, memory systems, and self-improvement loops.
• Design evaluation pipelines and synthetic data generation systems.
• Develop embedding, retrieval, and search infrastructure for large visual and creative datasets.
• Build web crawling and scraping systems to collect visual data at scale.
• Set up inference serving and APIs for client-facing products.
• Support security reviews, vulnerability mapping, and reliable infrastructure tooling.
• Create data collection and categorization systems for model training.

What We're Looking For

• At least 4 years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience building AI systems, agents, or ML pipelines.
• Strong Python skills, with experience in cloud infrastructure and CI/CD.
• Hands-on experience building crawling and embedding pipelines for large visual or creative datasets, along with retrieval and search systems.
• Experience developing AI-forward products, data generation and collection systems, and evaluation pipelines.
• A degree in computer science or a related technical field.
• Ability to independently solve ambiguous problems using pragmatic, straightforward approaches.
• Genuine interest in design, creativity, and making subjective qualities more measurable; open-source work or personal AI projects are a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $175,000 to $275,000 annually.
• Visa sponsorship is available.
