Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS or MIS from an ALA-accredited program.
• Experience delivering instruction to undergraduate students.
• Evidence of scholarly engagement with AI ethics (bias, privacy, IP).
• Experience developing educational programming related to AI literacy, media literacy, or digital literacy.
• Demonstrated use of AI literacy theories in education settings.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

AI & Emerging Literacies Librarian Full Description

Job Description

The AI & Emerging Literacies Librarian contributes to critical literacy education and student learning in a rapidly evolving digital world. The core duties of this position involve developing a variety of learning opportunities related to artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and other emerging literacies, with a focus on supporting ethical decision-making, responsible use, and critical analysis of societal impact. This position will contribute to student proficiency related to assessing the capabilities of AI tools and experimenting with their use. Building on existing digital literacy initiatives and ongoing work across campus, this position will seek opportunities to contribute to collaborative projects, make connections between programs, and to identify gaps where further literacy programming is needed. The AI & Emerging Literacies Librarian also participates as an active member of the Libraries' Digital Literacy & Learning Engagement Unit through a variety of team teaching and consultation, participation in collaborative events and projects, and ongoing strategic planning. This position will keep up with trends in the field and continue to look ahead towards needs for other emerging literacies as technology continues to change.

Required Qualifications

• A terminal degree in a field related to the job duties, such as a Masters in Library and/or Information Science (MLS, MLIS, MIS, etc) from an ALA-accredited graduate program
• Experience providing instruction or educational programming to undergraduate students
• Evidence of scholarly or professional engagement with ethical issues related to artificial intelligence, including bias, misinformation, intellectual property, environmental impact, and data privacy
• Experience developing educational programming related to AI literacy, media literacy, and/or digital literacy
• Demonstrated experience with applying current theories, frameworks, and/or best practices for AI literacy in an educational setting
• Excellent communication and partnership skills with the ability to engage in cross-functional collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience creating instructional videos, infographics, and other digital learning objects
• Demonstrated experience with or coursework related to learning theories, critical pedagogy, and/or instructional design
• An active research agenda demonstrated through published scholarly work
