Job summary

Virginia Tech seeks a Science & Technology Research Intelligence Analyst to join the Libraries' Research Impact & Intelligence team. You will document, analyze research activity data, and provide qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform strategic decisions, while educating on research analytics and funding opportunities.

You will act as liaison to a program or institute, support bibliometrics and data science, and collaborate across the Libraries and University to enhance scholars’

Qualifications

• A terminal degree in library and/or Information Science or related field.
• Experience at a large research-intensive university or equivalent.
• Experience with scholarly databases, metadata, and related platforms.
• Experience designing and maintaining complex projects or services.
• Knowledge of current trends in academic research and scholarship.

Reporting to the Director for Research Impact & Intelligence, the analyst will work in a team-based environment to provide consultations and deliver services related to documenting, collecting, and analyzing research and scholarly activity data to providing qualitative and quantitative evidence for strategic decision making through a variety of research domains. This analyst will also provide education and outreach on research intelligence, researcher visibility, finding funding opportunities, research analytics and tools, national research evaluation policy, and developing strategies for researchers and administrators to effectively Virginia Tech. The Science & Technology Research Intelligence Analyst will work with the team to provide specialized support for bibliometrics, network visualization options, and emerging applications of research ecosystem data. The incumbent will be liaison librarian to one program, department, or institute that is related to the incumbent’s background and/or expertise. The Science & Technology Research Intelligence Analyst will partner with colleagues across the Libraries and University (academic colleges, departments, institutes, and others Office of Research and Innovation, Institutional Effectiveness & Analytics, Office of the Provost), serve as liaison to Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, and support the Virginia Tech community across all locations, including distance and online affiliates, utilizing best practices to reflect Virginia Tech's Principles of Community throughout work activities and initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• -A terminal degree in a field related to the job duties, such as a master's in library and/or Information Science (MLS, MLIS, MIS, etc) from an ALA-accredited graduate program, or Ph.D or other terminal degree related to job duties.
• -Experience working as a professional in a large research-intensive university, national lab, or similar research-intensive institution
• -Education, training, or experience with one or more of the following: scholarly databases and their metadata, and/or related platforms, software, tools, or databases
• -Experience designing, planning, implementing, and maintaining complex projects or services
• -Evidence of knowledge, background, or experience in current and emerging trends or theories in academic research and scholarship

Preferred Qualifications

• -An active research agenda demonstrated through published scholarly work
• -Experience with research, funding, and/or patent metrics, analysis methods, bibliographic databases, and research analytic software and/or tools such as Scival, InCites, or Academic Analytics
• -Experience providing services related to research, funding, and/or patent metrics, as well as experience in data management and/or data science
• -Experience in library services, institutional effectiveness, or intelligence work
• Working knowledge of Python or R

Work Location:
This position is eligible for hybrid or fully remote, and the work arrangement will be confirmed upon hire. As necessary, may need to be onsite for collaboration purposes, with up to four campus visits per year.
