Middleware AI Consultant

Job summary

Select Minds LLC is seeking an experienced Middleware AI Consultant for Day 1 onsite work in Chicago, IL. You will assess WebSphere-based applications, plan migrations to JBoss, and leverage Claude Code to analyze dependencies and document technical debt.

You will develop modernization roadmaps, validate AI findings, and minimize manual effort by enabling automation across migration waves and prioritization. Strong expertise in IBM WAS/JBoss and Java EE is required.

Qualifications

• Experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 7.x-9.x and WebSphere ND.
• Expertise in WebSphere administration, troubleshooting, security, and middleware architecture.
• Experience with Red Hat JBoss EAP and WebSphere-to-JBoss migrations.
• Proficiency in Java SE/EE/Jakarta EE.
• Knowledge of EJB, JMS, JNDI, JDBC, IBM MQ, LDAP, and AD.
• Experience with EAR/WAR/JAR packaging, Maven/Gradle, Spring, REST, SOAP, and XML.

Responsibilities

• Assess WebSphere-based applications, middleware architecture, configurations, and dependencies.
• Identify WebSphere-specific dependencies (EJBs, JMS, JNDI, security, libraries, custom configs).
• Evaluate complexity, migration feasibility, risks, and effort.
• Perform WebSphere-to-JBoss migration and modernization assessments.
• Use Claude Code for codebase analysis, dependency discovery, and debt identification.
• Validate AI-generated findings and recommendations.
• Develop migration roadmaps, prioritization, and waves.
• Identify portability, rationalization, and licensing opportunities.
• Minimize team involvement via AI-assisted assessment and automation.
