Job summary

Gusto is seeking an IT Controls Engineer to own and scale ITGCs across enterprise apps such as NetSuite, Workday, and Salesforce. You will partner with Internal Audit, IT, Security, and Finance to ensure SOX 404 compliance while improving risk posture.

You will pioneer AI-augmented controls and continuous testing, reducing manual effort and increasing control precision as the company scales across the US. This senior role blends technical rigor with strategic systems thinking.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of IT controls, audit, or enterprise applications governance.
• Strong hands-on SoD design across ERP, HRIS, and CRM environments.
• Proven track record leading external audit engagements (Big 4 or equivalent).
• Experience building/deploying AI-augmented controls and AI evidence pipelines.
• Excellent communicator able to translate control concepts to executives and engineers.
• Certifications (CISA, CISSP, CIA, CPA or equivalent) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own ITGC design and operation across enterprise apps (logical access, change mgmt, SDLC, SoD).
• Lead 1st-line control environment with application owners and engineering leads.
• Drive SoD strategy across ERP, HRIS, CRM with monitoring tools.
• Manage audit lifecycle with Internal/External Audit and SOX PMO.
• Build AI-native continuous controls monitoring and automated evidence collection.
• Review internal AI use cases with cross-functional teams to ensure controls and validation.
• Lead access governance including provisioning/deprovisioning and UARs.
• Govern change management for in-scope systems and release evidence.
• Mature controls program via rationalization and automated controls.
• Partner with Security/GRC, Legal, Finance, People Ops for aligned controls.
