National Life Group is unlocking the power of data and AI to transform our business and customer experience. As a Data Science Intern, you will contribute to projects within our AI Center of Excellence, gaining hands-on experience applying data science techniques to real business challenges.

You will work in Databricks, develop data-driven solutions, and explore both traditional methods and generative AI in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in CS, data science, math, stats, or related field.
• Strong Python skills with pandas and scikit-learn; Spark/PyTorch/TensorFlow a plus.
• Working knowledge of SQL for data querying, joining, and aggregation.
• Solid grounding in regression, classification, model evaluation, and hypothesis testing.
• Coursework or projects using generative AI APIs is a plus.
• Curiosity to learn real-world AI applications and foundational statistics.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with AI and data science practitioners, technical experts, and business partners.
• Work in National Life's Databricks environment to develop and evaluate data-driven solutions.
• Prepare, explore, and validate datasets for life insurance use cases.
• Develop and evaluate statistical and ML models, compare to baselines.
• Design experiments and measure business outcomes with clear success metrics.
• Build reusable Python and SQL workflows with validation and documentation.
• Prototype generative AI applications and assess output quality and usefulness.
• Apply responsible AI practices and protect data privacy.
• Present findings and recommendations to technical and business audiences.
