Job summary

Basis is looking for a Controller to build the financial systems and operating foundation for our next growth phase. You’ll own the integrity of our accounting and help us understand how the company earns and spends money.

This role is in-person in NYC, reporting to the Head of Finance. You’ll redesign workflows across the close, reconciliations, spend monitoring, reporting, and other core work, balancing AI-enabled processes with human review while partnering with Product and Engineering to

Qualifications

• 6-12 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge across financial reporting, revenue recognition, accruals, capitalization, equity.
• Systems mindset for scalable processes and controls.
• Experience building accounts payable, procurement, expense systems.
• Strong analytical judgment and business insight.
• Ability to partner with technical and nontechnical teams.

Responsibilities

• Own accounting operations and close processes with high integrity.
• Redesign workflows to leverage AI while maintaining explainability and auditability.
• Define scalable controls and operating rhythms for finance functions.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to translate learnings into better systems and insights.
• Support audit readiness and internal controls as the company scales.
