Job summary

Engrain is seeking a Controller to lead accounting operations and drive a modern, AI-enabled finance function. You will lead a seven-person team, report to the CFO, and collaborate across the organization to scale processes and strengthen controls.

Responsibilities include overseeing close, reporting, billing, and tax, while redesigning workflows with automation and integrations across NetSuite and Salesforce.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller or Assistant Controller roles in SaaS/software.
• 3+ years managing and developing accounting or finance teams.
• Experience scaling accounting processes, systems, and controls in growth-stage companies.
• Process-engineering mindset with a track record of automating workflows.
• Practical AI and automation fluency with generative AI, agents, workflow automation, and intelligent financial tools.
• Strong judgment on automation vs. human oversight, controls, and compliance.
• US GAAP knowledge; NetSuite and Salesforce experience required; Workato integration knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead Accounting: oversee reporting, close, billing, AP/AR, payroll, treasury, GL, tax, and revenue recognition.
• Modernize Finance using AI, automation, and system integration to improve efficiency and scale.
• Automate routine work like reconciliations, transaction review, billing, collections, and reporting.
• Accelerate close and reporting with timely financial insights for decisions.
• Strengthen systems and controls, ensuring data governance and auditability.
• Lead and develop the accounting team with AI and automation tools.
• Partner with the business to translate growth into scalable financial capabilities.
• Manage compliance and external relationships with auditors and partners.
