Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. seeks an AI and Data Engineering Intern in the Agriculture Division Software Engineering Department in Omaha, NE. You will work on data pipelines, predictive models, and data-driven insights to improve irrigation systems.

You will gain hands-on experience with cloud data platforms, feature engineering, model development, and collaboration with engineering and product teams; the internship emphasizes real projects and leadership exposure.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
• Strong Python programming skills (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib/Seaborn).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
• Experience with time-series or sensor data preferred; geometry tools helpful.
• Knowledge of geospatial analysis tools (GeoPandas/QGIS) preferred.
• Interest in precision agriculture, irrigation systems, or agronomy preferred.
• Exposure to MLOps and deploying ML models in production preferred.
• Experience with dashboarding/visualization tools (Power BI/Tableau/Plotly Dash).
• Office presence required on Tue or Thu.

Responsibilities

• Extract, clean, and preprocess data from Azure-based databases.
• Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends and opportunities.
• Engineer features for predictive modeling and decision making.
• Develop and evaluate ML models to support irrigation optimization.
• Document methodologies and present insights to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to integrate data solutions.
• Identify data quality issues and propose process improvements.
