Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Content Designer to join the Content Design team in San Francisco. You will combine editorial judgment, product strategy, and technical implementation to build prompts, evaluations, and tools that scale content and messaging.

Your focus will be experiences that help people discover ChatGPT’s value, get started, and stay engaged—including notifications—with involvement in broader Content Design work as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in content design, content engineering, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience developing prompts for shipped generative AI experiences and understanding model capabilities.
• Designed and implemented content evaluation frameworks and validated reliability.
• Hands-on experience using code and APIs to build repeatable generation and evaluation workflows and collaborated with Engineering to production.
• Strong writing, editorial judgment, and content strategy skills.
• Able to translate qualitative and quantitative evidence into actionable recommendations.
• Collaborate across technical and nontechnical teams to bring structure to ambiguous problems.

Responsibilities

• Shape content strategy for experiences that help people discover ChatGPT’s value, get started, and return to meaningful uses of the product.
• Design, implement, and iterate on prompt frameworks that guide AI-generated product content and messaging.
• Define content quality standards and build evaluation systems, datasets, and reviewer guidance combining human judgment with automated assessments.
• Shape tools and workflows for generating, reviewing, and improving content across experiments and product experiences.
• Analyze model outputs and evaluation results to diagnose problems and improve content systems as models and user needs evolve.
• Partner with product, engineering, design, research, and data science to connect content quality with user understanding, trust, engagement, and retention.
• Document reusable approaches and coach other Content Designers in developing prompts, defining evaluation criteria, and interpreting results.
