Job summary

Mercor is seeking a Chemistry Research Collaborator for a remote, part-time contract (up to 20 hours/week). You will review scholarly chemistry papers, craft problems to train frontier AI models, and assess model outputs on retrosynthesis, mechanism prediction, and spectral interpretation.

The role requires a PhD or postdoctoral training and a track record of published work. Ideal candidates have publications in top journals, fellowships, and a history of active research.

Qualifications

• Must have first-author publications in journals like JACS, Nature Chemistry, Science, or Nature Catalysis.
• Doctorate or postdoctoral training from a top-20 global institution in chemistry or related STEM field.
• Competitive fellowship such as NSF GRFP or Sloan Research Fellowship.
• Issued patents, a spin-out company, or grants held as PI/Co-Investigator.
• IChO Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal.
• Current or recent experience in an active research role (PhD candidate, postdoc, or industry researcher).

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate chemistry papers for correctness, novelty, and significance.
• Author and review challenging chemistry problems to train/evaluate frontier AI models.
• Evaluate model outputs on retrosynthesis, mechanism prediction, and spectral interpretation.
• Identify gaps where current models fail, comparable to a working PhD chemist insight.
• Collaborate with a small program team and other senior contributors.
