Job summary

John Charles Search is seeking an AI Agent Architect for a confidential client. The role centers on designing and building enterprise internal agents and AI-native workflows, spanning from discovery to production rollout.

The candidate will own system architecture, implement multimodal data pipelines, and collaborate with product, research and operations to deliver pragmatic, observable and scalable AI solutions.

John Charles Search is recruiting an AI Agent Architect on behalf of a confidential client to design and build enterprise internal agents and AI-native workflows.

This role combines system architecture, product thinking and hands-on engineering, taking complex problems from initial discovery through to production rollout.

The Role

• Architect and build internal AI agent systems for complex business, data and operational workflows.
• Connect agents with multimodal data pipelines, services, tools and production infrastructure, with clear permissions and interfaces.
• Design reliable systems with effective state management, monitoring and failure recovery.
• Develop workflows that coordinate agent actions, human review and cross-team handovers, balancing automation with oversight.
• Collaborate with product, research, data, infrastructure and operations teams to translate evolving requirements into practical delivery plans.
• Improve systems through evaluation, production feedback and ongoing iteration.

What We're Looking For

• Strong software engineering and system architecture fundamentals, with experience owning complex production systems.
• Hands-on knowledge of LLMs and AI agents, including tool use, orchestration, context, memory, evaluation, guardrails and observability.
• Experience integrating systems with large-scale multimodal data processing or distributed workflows.
• Sound product judgement and the ability to make pragmatic technical decisions.
• Confidence working through ambiguity, communicating across teams and taking ownership.
• Experience with human-in-the-loop systems, internal automation, permissions, auditability, multi-tenant platforms or controlled AI rollouts would be valuable.
