NewsBreak is building the agent platform powering next‑generation AI products, from local news synthesis to advertising agents. We seek an Engineer to own this layer end‑to‑end, joining a focused team that ships weekly and values observability.

You’ll work across backend, frontend, and data systems, with a strong emphasis on eval, context management, and tool integration. Salary in the US base range reflects market norms for senior roles.

Qualifications

• Shipping an AI product with real users or MVP you can discuss concretely.
• Hands-on with modern AI tooling (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, v0).
• Ability to work end-to-end: backend, frontend, deployment, and observability.
• Experience in AI agent design: context management and tool-calling protocols.
• Strong Python or Go/Node backend engineering experience with APIs and databases.
• Frontend capability (React/Next.js) to ship internal tools.

Responsibilities

• Build the agent runtime that orchestrates context assembly, tool invocation, model routing, and workflow tracking across multiple agentic products.
• Design the eval and observability harness that runs thousands of agent traces per day, surfaces regressions before they ship, and turns production failures into actionable improvements.
• Own the context engineering layer — retrieval, ranking, compression, and memory — that determines what makes it into a model call; contribute opinions on RAG vs. long-context vs. structured tool returns.
• Integrate and benchmark new foundation models as they become available; decide on model selection across agents based on capacity and cost.
• Build user-facing surfaces — playgrounds, agent traces, control panels — and ship them to production for internal teams.
• Collaborate with product to take new agent concepts from brief to v1 in weeks.
