Job summary

Matrix Service Company seeks an AGW Welder to set up, operate, and maintain Automatic Girth Welding equipment for aboveground storage tanks. You will weld horizontal shell seams per WPS, read drawings, and ensure code compliance with API 650/653 and AWS standards.

You will collaborate with fitters, inspectors and quality personnel, monitor temperatures, perform repairs, and document welding activities while adhering to safety protocols and project schedules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of industrial welding experience.
• Minimum 1–3 years of AGW or automated welding system experience.
• Demonstrated experience in aboveground storage tank construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and welding symbols.
• Knowledge of FCAW, GMAW, and SMAW processes.
• Ability to pass project-specific welding qualification tests.
• Experience with automated tank shell welding systems.
• Extensive API 650 tank construction experience.
• API 653 tank repair and alteration experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate automatic welding systems using FCAW or GMAW as specified.
• Verify weld quality through visual inspection and documentation.
• Monitor preheat and interpass temperatures; maintain WPS compliance.
• Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot AGW equipment.
• Maintain welding heads, feeders, and control panels.
• Read welding procedures, drawings, and weld maps.
• Coordinate with fitters and erectors to maintain schedules.
• Support NDE activities (RT/UT/MT/PT) as needed.
• Follow safety requirements and participate in JHA/meetings.
