Job summary

The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) in Wisconsin seeks an Agriculture Auditor (Entry Level or Level 3) for field-based work across the state. DATCP currently has an opening for a Agriculture Auditor (Entry Level or Level 3) position within the Division of Trade and Consumer Protection, Bureau of Bureau of Business Trade Practices.

Required

This is a field-based position and routine statewide travel is required.

The selected applicants can select a headquarter in one of the following counties: Adams, Brown, Buffalo, Calumet, Clark, Chippewa, Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Dunn, Eau Claire, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Juneau, La Crosse, Lafayette, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Monroe, Oconto, Outagamie, Pepin, Pierce, Portage, Sauk, Shawano, St. Croix, Trempealeau, Waupaca, Waushara, Winnebago or Wood.

Qualifying candidates are not required to live in a county headquarter location. However, reimbursement for commuting to or from the employee’s assigned headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Routine travel within an assigned territory and throughout the state for assigned work and emergency response is required.

Salary Information

The Agriculture Auditor(Entry) is in schedule-range 07-04 with starting pay between $30.00 - $33.00 per hour based on qualifications and non-exempt FLSA status.

The Agriculture Auditor 3 is in schedule-range 07-03 with starting pay between $33.00 to $36.00 per hour based on qualifications and exempt FLSA status.

Upon obtaining a CPA license, an add-on amount of $1.00 per hour may be paid to supplement the base pay of an eligible employee.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

Conditions Of Employment

Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to provide one’s own transportation for work purposes, is required.

A valid driver’s license and the eligibility to drive a State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle* is required.

• In order to be authorized to drive a State vehicle the candidate must meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy, which are:
• Must have a valid driver’s license;
• Must have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience;
• Must be 18 years of age.

Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:

• Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
• Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
• Suspension or revocation of driver’s license.

Regular in-state travel of approximately 75% of the time with some overnight stays and occasional out-of-state travel is required.

Must have the physical ability to climb grain bins approx. once a week to inventory grain. Bins heights generally range between 20 – 60 feet but may be as high as 100 feet.

Ability to work in an environment that includes such factors as foul air, grain dust, inclement weather, extreme heights and moving machinery.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:

• Work experience and training in accounting or finance (preparing reports for accounts payable and/or accounts receivable, performing bank reconciliations, analyzing financial statements, auditing accounting records, etc.)

OR

• Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance from an accredited post-secondary college/university

In addition to the minimum qualifications above, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:

• Experience working within the grain industry (commodities market analysis, future pricing, hedging, etc.)
• Experience interpreting and applying rules and/or regulations (state/federal statutes, policies, laws, etc.)
• Experience with conducting financial or compliance audits, preparing financial statements or performing financial statement analysis
