Placements24 is seeking an Agricultural Technician to install, calibrate, and maintain smart farming systems on client farms in Gauteng, with frequent travel to Tembisa.

You will troubleshoot IoT devices, sensors, irrigation controllers, and data loggers, and provide on-site support to farmers to ensure reliable data collection and system performance.

Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, an innovator in smart farming technologies, is seeking a skilled Agricultural Technician to support the implementation and maintenance of advanced farming systems in Tembisa, Gauteng. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of IoT devices, automated irrigation, sensor networks, and other smart farming technologies deployed on client farms. You will work closely with farmers and our technical team to troubleshoot issues, provide on-site support, and ensure optimal system performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical aptitude, practical experience with agricultural machinery and electronics, and a passion for technology in agriculture.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain smart farming equipment, including sensors, controllers, and data loggers.
• Monitor system performance and diagnose technical issues with hardware and software components.
• Provide on-site technical support and training to farmers on the use of smart farming technologies.
• Perform regular calibration and maintenance of agricultural sensors and electronic devices.
• Collect and manage data generated by smart farming systems.
• Assist in the troubleshooting and resolution of network connectivity and data transmission problems.
• Collaborate with the engineering and development teams on system improvements and new product testing.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations during installations and maintenance.

Requirements

• Practical experience with electronic systems, sensors, data acquisition, and basic networking.
• Familiarity with agricultural machinery, irrigation systems, and farm operations is highly advantageous.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with farmers.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in the field.
• Willingness to travel frequently within the Gauteng region, specifically around Tembisa.
