THE ROLE
As the ART Manager for the Battery and High Voltage ART, you will serve as the strategic and executional lead across one of GM’s critical software delivery organizations. This role bridges agile product management and program execution for battery energy management and high voltage controls—core pillars in GM’s all-electric future.
You will own the delivery roadmap, orchestrate cross-functional dependencies, and ensure your ART delivers the right product, at the right time, with the highest impact. As a servant leader, you will guide the team to continuously improve value delivery, execution predictability, and alignment with GM’s vehicle development programs.
Program Management & Delivery Execution
- Lead end-to-end planning and execution of ART deliverables across vehicle programs, ensuring timely and flawless feature integration aligned with vehicle milestones.
- Drive PI planning readiness , cross-functional alignment, and backlog management using agile tools such as JIRA and Confluence .
- Proactively remove roadblocks, resolve execution misalignments, and escalate risks where appropriate.
- Utilize program management tools to track status, visualize risk, and communicate delivery progress to leadership.
Backlog Ownership & Roadmap Management
- Prioritize, refine, and maintain a clear and actionable ART backlog in JIRA , ensuring alignment with strategic goals and stakeholder timelines.
- Ensure feature stories meet “acceptance critieria” and “definition of done” criteria and are traceable in program management systems.
- Maintain a forward-looking roadmap extending 2–3 Program Increments (PIs), supported by a robust technology pipeline .
- Translate customer and vehicle program needs into well-defined, high-value deliverables.
Stakeholder & Cross-ART Collaboration
- Act as the interface between VMEC, vehicle programs, and other ARTs , ensuring strong bi-directional alignment and timely content delivery.
- Collaborate with Product Teams, Validation, Calibration, Systems Engineering, and platform leaders to align on shared goals.
- Coordinate with other ART Managers for delivery dependencies across the vehicle software ecosystem.
Customer-Centric Decision-Making
- Align development priorities with the highest-value outcomes for internal and external customers.
- Ensure each delivered feature supports GM’s mission for Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion .
Metrics-Driven Optimization, Efficiency & Innovation
- Define, track, and analyze key ART metrics (e.g., throughput, predictability, business value realization) using dashboards and reporting tools.
- Identify patterns, gaps, or bottlenecks in execution; drive data-informed continuous improvement .
- Partner with engineering, systems, and tooling teams to implement efficiency enablers, automation, and process innovations .
- Contribute to innovation forums and retrospectives to improve quality, cadence, and customer value delivery.
- Prioritized and maintained ART Backlog in JIRA.
- Accepted and traceable features with verified value and completeness.
- ART Roadmaps updated 2–3 PIs ahead, visible to stakeholders.
- Cross-team dependency maps and resolution tracking.
- ART performance dashboards: throughput, value delivery, predictability.
- Continuous improvement and innovation proposals based on metrics and stakeholder feedback.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in software program management, embedded systems, or systems engineering.
- Hands-on expertise with JIRA, Confluence , and agile program management tools.
- Demonstrated success in managing complex cross-functional programs with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience leading agile teams, ARTs, or large-scale software projects using SAFe or similar frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; able to lead and influence across boundaries.
What Gives You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master’s Degree (MBA, MSE) or SAFe/Agile certifications.
- Experience in electrification, battery management systems (BMS), or high voltage control domains.
- Knowledge of GM tools and systems (PRTS, GMS, SAFe metrics).
- DFSS Black Belt certification.
- Proven track record with successful vehicle program launches.
