Job summary

Coastal Horizons Center, Inc. is seeking an Aggression Replacement Training Specialist to instruct a class for children with behavioral and social challenges.

The role involves school and community interventions to reduce aggression, improve coping, and support family involvement. The position requires a Bachelor's in a Human Service field with 2+ years of relevant experience, including work with children and families, and a demonstrated ability to meet service and productivity markers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience with children, adolescents, and families.
  • Minimum two years as a Qualified Professional within the agency with productivity markers.

Aggression Replacement Training Specialist

Job Title: Aggression Replacement Training Specialist

Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full Time

Summary of Position:

Instruct a class for children that exhibit behavior such as bullying, aggressive acting out, challenging behaviors, fighting, poor social coping, and may have limited social interaction skills. Also performs therapeutic interventions in the school and community settings with the identified youth and their family for the purpose to reduce symptoms, improve behavioral functioning, increase the individual’s ability to cope with and relate to others, promote recovery, and enhance the beneficiary’s capacity to function in an educational setting, or to be maintained in community based services.

Required Educational/Experimental Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelors Degree in a Human Service field with 2 years of post Bachelors experience with Mental Health population. Meets requirements under 10A NCAC 27G.0104 as a Qualified Professional for Mental Health

Minimum one (1) year documented experience with children, adolescents, and families.

Minimum two (2) years experience within the agency as a Qualified Professional – with demonstration of the ability to meet service and productivity markers for at least one (1) year.

Position Highlights:

Provide direct services through school interventions to support child in the school setting.

Focus on diminishing aggressive behaviors through targeted practice and role play of important social skills, awareness, and replacement of aggressive behaviors.

Deliver group based interventions such as skill building activities, positive behavioral supports, and enhancing consumer’s knowledge of interpersonal and community relational skills.

To have a network of referral agency contacts and resources in order to fulfill the socioeconomic needs of the clients.

Engage actively in all aspects of the Aggression Replacement Training and prepared to present all three components: Social Skills, Anger Control, Moral Reasoning.

Keep all appropriate documentation for accountability and reimbursement.

Participate in other administrative activities as appropriate.

Provide direct services through school-based interventions to support family preservation, meeting educational goals, and maintaining appropriate role functioning in community setting.

Deliver one-on-one and group interventions such as skill building activities, intervene with positive behavioral supports, enhance consumer’s knowledge of interpersonal and community relational skills.

Is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and exposed to hazards such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation and may require the employee to work in close quarters.

May be exposed to human body fluids and is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens.

Additional Information:

Considerable knowledge of the practical application of different therapeutic approaches, group dynamics, crisis intervention, and family therapy.

Considerable knowledge of community resources.

Knowledge of the psycho-social, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment.

Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program.

Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and psycho-pharmacology.

Skill in establishing rapport with a client and/or family and applying techniques of assessing psycho-social, behavioral, and psychological aspects of the client.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and members of civic, medical, social, and religious organizations.

Ability to formulate treatment goals and to record concisely required documentation.

Ability to make public presentations to various community and Agency groups.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute programmatic work effectively.

Considerable knowledge of program development and expansion.

Ability to effectively supervise and manage staff as well as to train and orient professional and support staff, including volunteers and interns.

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, reaching, and walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.

Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly or frequently to move objects.

Must possess the visual acuity to perform extensive reading.

Must have valid driver’s license and be able to work in community settings.
