Job summary

Knife River Corporation is seeking an Operations Coordinator to support divisional production planning, scheduling, and allocation activities. You will work with plant teams to align output with demand, monitor inventory, and track performance metrics across the division.

The role involves traveling between sites, coordinating materials, and assisting with planning meetings to optimize capacity and scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors' degree or equivalent experience in mining, construction, engineering or related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in production, scheduling, operations, or materials management in construction materials, manufacturing or related industry.
  • Working knowledge of production planning, inventory management, and scheduling processes.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with computer systems, spreadsheets, and scheduling or production-related software.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with production scheduling across many sites to align plant output with customer demand and operational priorities.
  • Support heavy bid planning and heavy job scheduling to ensure production readiness and material availability.
  • Assist with production scheduling adjustments in response to weather, equipment availability, inventory levels, and project needs.
  • Manage and monitor product mix and inventory levels across the division to optimize utilization and reduce shortages or excess.
  • Coordinate regional allocation of materials and resources among plants and locations.
  • Track, review, and report key production and scheduling KPIs; identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Partner closely with plant managers, schedulers, sales, and operations teams to support execution and daily production goals.
  • Participate in planning meetings and provide input on operational constraints, capacity, and scheduling considerations.
  • Promote safe, efficient, and consistent operational practices across the region.
  • Travel required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Operations Coordinator provides support for divisional production planning, scheduling, and allocation activities. This role works with plant, operations, and scheduling teams to assist with production‑related tasks, help monitor inventory and product mix, support ongoing projects, and help track performance metrics across the division.

Typical schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with an occasional Saturday as needed.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assist with production scheduling across many sites to align plant output with customer demand and operational priorities.
  2. Support heavy bid planning and heavy job scheduling to ensure production readiness and material availability.
  3. Assist with production scheduling adjustments in response to weather, equipment availability, inventory levels, and project needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  1. Associates or Bachelors' degree in mining, construction, engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  2. Three to five years of experience in production, scheduling, operations, or materials management within construction materials, manufacturing, or a related industry.
  3. Working knowledge of production planning, inventory management, and scheduling processes.
  4. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  1. Experience supporting multi‑site production operations.
  2. Familiarity with aggregates, ready mix, asphalt, or construction materials operations.
  3. Experience tracking KPIs and using data to support operational decisions.
  4. Prior experience coordinating shared labor resources or specialty crews.
