Aggie Commons Cook at Utah State University in Logan, UT, is a part-time, hourly position in Dining Services. You will prepare and serve high-quality meals in a fast-paced, campus dining environment, following standard recipes, safety, and quality guidelines.

Hours are Sunday-Thursday 3PM-11PM, with emphasis on teamwork and exceptional student and staff service. The role requires culinary knowledge, strong organization, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Food Handler Permit or ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
  • Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and safe food handling practices

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present menu items according to standardized recipes, production schedules, and portion guidelines
  • Ensure all food is prepared and served in compliance with food safety, sanitation, and quality standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, workstations, equipment, and storage areas
  • Assist with food preparation, inventory rotation, and proper storage using FIFO practices
  • Monitor product quality and communicate concerns regarding ingredients, equipment, or food safety to supervisors
  • Work collaboratively with cooks, supervisors, chefs, and other Dining Services staff to ensure efficient meal production and excellent customer service
  • Assist with menu implementation and provide feedback to support menu improvements and operational efficiency
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely according to established procedures
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, positive working relationship with coworkers, supervisors, and customers
  • Support special events, catering, and other Dining Services operations as assigned
  • Perform opening, closing, and cleaning duties to ensure kitchen readiness for daily operations

Overview

The Aggie Commons Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals in a fast-paced, team-oriented campus dining environment. This position requires culinary knowledge, strong organizational skills, attention to food safety, and a commitment to providing excellent service to students, faculty, staff, and campus guests. The Cook works collaboratively with dining team members to ensure meals are prepared efficiently, consistently, and in accordance with Utah State University Dining Services standards. Hours Sunday-Thursday 3PM-11PM.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Food Handler Permit or ServSafe Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, food preparation, and safe food handling practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team while demonstrating professionalism and respect for others.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and standardized recipes.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as operational needs require.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in institutional, commercial, or high-volume food service.
  • Experience using commercial kitchen equipment and preparing food in large quantities.

This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting.
