Job summary

Genentech seeks a Software Development Engineer to build an agentic platform for molecule design in South San Francisco. You will develop production software, integrate AI models, and collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product teams to advance drug discovery.

Onsite presence is expected at least 3 days a week. The role emphasizes Python, API design, testing, data modeling, and scalable cloud deployments within a cutting-edge research environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's in CS/Software Eng or related field; 3+ years in software engineering for engineer level; 5+ years for senior level.
• Proficient in Python with strong fundamentals including API design, testing, data modeling, and system design.
• Experience delivering production software from design through deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Experience building backend services, platform capabilities, or developer tools in a cloud environment.
• Comfortable with relational databases, asynchronous workflows, containers, version control, and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and user-facing applications for an agentic drug design platform.
• Integrate ML models, scientific apps, databases, and internal services into end-to-end workflows.
• Implement agentic capabilities, including tool execution, workflow orchestration, and observability.
• Build software enabling scientists to configure, run, inspect, and reproduce molecule design workflows.
• Deploy models and tools into secure, scalable cloud environments.
• Write clean, tested code and contribute to testing, docs, reviews, and CI/CD.
