Job summary

Genentech is seeking a Senior ML Engineer to join the Generative Modeling team. The role focuses on building and scaling AI systems to accelerate target and drug discovery, spanning tool-using agents, data interfaces, and production ML pipelines.

You will design and evaluate autonomous loops, work with scientists to scope projects, and own the end-to-end lifecycle from research ideas to robust software in production.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in CS, ML, engineering or related quantitative field.
• 5+ years building and shipping ML systems in industry.
• Excellent Python; strong software and data engineering fundamentals (Git, automated testing, CI/CD, documentation).
• Track record leading technical projects end to end.
• Comfort with ambiguity and close collaboration with scientists.
• Interest or experience applying ML to scientific discovery (AI for science), including biology, chemistry, or drug discovery.

Responsibilities

• Build and scale foundation models and AI agents for therapeutic discovery.
• Own production Python/PyTorch (or JAX) codebases.
• Manage MLOps/AgentOps lifecycle: experiment tracking, evaluation, monitoring, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code.
