Job summary

The Armstrong Company in Oklahoma seeks an Agency Safety Representative to monitor and continuously improve the agency's safety compliance program under direction from management. You will work to ensure DOT and FMCSA regulations are followed, manage safety alerts, logs, inspections, and logs submissions, and help implement safety initiatives across the fleet and agency staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Transportation, Communications, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 2 years of safety-related experience in transportation or moving industry required.
  • Working knowledge of DOT guidelines, OSHA compliance, hazardous material handling and FMCSA.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.

  • Identify safety trends; prepare profiles; distribute safety statistics and materials to improve performance.
  • Coordinate safety training and procedures for van operators and staff; audit logs; communicate time estimates for shipments; on-call procedures.

Description

Under direction from the agency principal and/or agency management, the Agency Safety Representative works to monitor, coordinate, and continuously improve the agency’s safety compliance program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Together with agency senior management, works to monitor the agency’s Safety Performance Rating (SPR); sets and reinforces agency and van operator safety goals; develops incentives and/or recognition programs to measure and reward positive safety performance.
  • Works towards compliance with all agency and UniGroup safety policies and procedures, Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), including van operator qualifications, vehicle inspections, van operator and agency safety evaluation systems, substance abuse testing, accident analysis/prevention, vehicle licensing and permit issuance, and van operator log submissions and hours of service tracking.
  • Receives and responds to safety notifications such as safety alerts; items coming due such as CDL’s, V/O medicals, insurance, vehicle inspections, missing logs; and CSA and UniGroup policy violations. Coordinates fines for untimely log submissions, chargebacks for licensing fees, and helps to problem-solve in the event of agency/van operator performance issues.
  • Identifies safety compliance successes, problems, and trends; prepares profiles; monitors progress; produces and distributes safety statistical information and materials to assist agency and van operators in improving safety performance.
  • Coordinates safety training, awareness, monitoring and problem resolution for the agency’s van operators and associates, including developing policies and procedures around the safe dispatching of vehicles; review and audit of van operator logs; communication of strategies on how to properly estimate time needed to handle shipments; alternatives to deal with shipments in the event a van operator is out of hours; and on-call procedures during non-working hours to handle out-of-service issues, vehicle accidents and other major losses.
  • Encourages agency staff and van operators to identify and report safety issues or concerns; identifies and works to resolve non-compliance problems, and makes recommendations for corrective action for van operators, up to and including termination of van operators or agency staff as appropriate.
  • Actively participates in training, monitoring, and corrective action plans for hours-of-service compliance for the organization, with a particular focus on new van operators and van operators who have demonstrated a need for improvement.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Transportation, Communications, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 2 years of safety-related experience in the transportation or moving industry required.
  • Must possess working knowledge of DOT guidelines, OSHA compliance, hazardous material handling and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions and strategies regarding location Safety needs.
Physical Requirements
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for long periods; stand and walk frequently; and bend, stoop, and reach occasionally.
