JOB SUMMARY

Plans and conducts the more complex agricultural research projects or directs the operations of a laboratory animal facility.

JOB DUTIES

20% - Supervision: Organizing work schedules for Sheep Farm staff and student employees. Planning and coordination of labor and varying production, research and teaching demands. Supervision of all Sheep Farm employees and conducting evaluations of employee performance as appropriate.

40% - Facilities: Plans, organizes and initiates actions related to Sheep Farm equipment and facilities use, repair and maintenance. Coordinates activities and labor resources with research and teaching faculty. Develops and implements forage plan for utilization of pastures and stored forages.

40% - Operations: Plan, coordinate and direct the daily operations of the Sheep Farm. Act independently on daily decisions and manages flock to meet research & teaching purposes. Collects and maintains routine flock records for beeding and production purposes. Monitors & manages feed, forage, spplies and animal inventory. Maintains IACUC documents for AAALAC and USDA accreditation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree in animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience that is directly related to the area of employment may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • JOB KNOWLEDGE Comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and practices and ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manages work of others including hiring, terminating, training and developing, providing constructive feedback, establishing and reviewing employee complaints, recommending rewards and recognition and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content.
  • BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES Provides input into the budgeting process, and manages fund allocation.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range 53,000 - 56,000 Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Essential Support - In the event of an emergency closure or modified operations, this position is necessary to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
