Job summary

City of Evanston is seeking an After School Lead Instructor for the Robert Crown Community Center. This part-time, seasonal role runs after school with a 2:30pm-6pm schedule and occasional longer days during school breaks.

You will lead recreational activities, provide academic support, supervise safety, and collaborate with the Coordinator and other staff to create a fun, inclusive environment for all participants.

Description:

Lead After School Instructor is responsible for leading and implementing games, sports, arts & crafts, recreational activitiesand academic supportforparticipantsin a group setting. As an After School LeadInstructor,you will be expected to communicate directly with the Coordinator,After school Instructorand any other Instructorswith suggestions, comments, concerns or ideas. The After School Lead Instructoris responsible for the safety of participants during the program including field trips, and anything directly related to programactivities. It is required for all After School Lead Instructorsto report any accidents/ incidents to the Program Coordinator, immediately followed by completing the proper paperwork for documentation. Every After School Lead Instructoris expected to be a role model toparticipantsand exhibit constructive and inclusive participation for all participants. It is the duty of the After School Lead Instructors to come to work daily with a positive attitude and ready to make After School Programa safe, enjoyable and fun atmosphere for all that attend.

  • Complete all appropriate training
  • Read and follow updated policies and procedures
  • Communicate any concerns or issues directly to the Program Coordinator
  • Get to know and work cooperatively with programand building staff
  • Employees should have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly, in addition to the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Can lift, reach, kneel, bend, stand for long periods of time, talk, hear, feel, smell, climb, maintain balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, and see the nature of the object by the eye.

  • Group supervision of participantswith attention to all the following: program, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character and skill development
  • Assist participants in a variety of recreational programs including arts and crafts, field trips, games and sports
  • Plan and provide instruction for a variety of recreational activities that are age-appropriate activities suitable to individual group interests, needs and capabilities
  • Provide academic support and homework help for participants
  • Promote participation in ALL activities
  • Set a good example
  • Be aware ofparticipants' medical needs
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive attitude and refraining from behavior that is detrimental to the staff team and staff morale
  • Work with theInstructorsand Coordinatortoiron out address any issues with facilities, programs andparticipants
  • Provide public relations/ customer service to parents/guardians to ensure a positive impression of our program
  • Responsible for reporting your own health concerns- ill/exhaustion toyour specific Directorthe Coordinator
  • Under the guidance of your LeadInstructoror Coordinator,enforcement of policies and rules
  • Maintain, inventory and care for equipment and supplies
  • Possess good judgment and willingness to accept responsibilities
  • Perform other related work as assigned by Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18yrs. Old
  • Strong interest, maturity and judgment in working with childrenin an outdoor setting
  • Knowledge and experience in programrelated activities preferred
  • Possess the ability to work as a team member with other instructorsand senior staff members
  • Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient and willing to learn




Rate:
Starting at$21-$25hourly

Schedule:

This is a part-time, seasonal after school position. Schedule includes weekdays, Monday- Friday after school and school days out. Working hours are 2:30pm-6pm and full 8 hour days on school days out. Work location-Robert Crown Community Center
