Job summary

Homes for the Homeless in Jamaica, Queens, NY is seeking an enthusiastic Afterschool Activity Specialist to deliver a high-quality program supporting academic, enrichment, and social-emotional development in a safe and engaging environment.

You will develop and lead hands-on activities in areas such as STEM, literacy, sports, arts, dance, nutrition, and academic support while collaborating with program staff to ensure a positive, structured experience for participants.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Experience in afterschool/recreational settings.
• Ability to plan and implement structured programming.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on enrichment activities in areas like STEM, literacy, arts, dance, sports, etc.
• Design and implement DYCD COMPASS-aligned lesson plans.
• Supervise children/youth in a safe, structured environment.
• Promote engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for participants.
• Collaborate with Group Leaders and Youth Workers to run daily activities.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with parents and administrators.
• Recruit and engage program participants within the residence and community.
• Monitor attendance and support attendance improvement initiatives.
• Participate in staff meetings and trainings; support program compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
