Job summary

Queens Community House seeks an energetic Afterschool Coordinator to support workforce development and after-school programming at Hillcrest High School in Queens, NY. You will oversee Career Ready, Work, Learn & Grow, and Extended Day programs, coordinating student internships and enrichment activities while maintaining strong school and community partnerships.

The role emphasizes youth development, college and career readiness, and collaborative teamwork with educators, families, and employers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Youth Development, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with high school-aged youth.
  • Experience coordinating after-school, workforce development, internship, or college readiness programs.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, employers, and community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the daily operations of the Career Ready and Work, Learn & Grow (WLG) programs at Hillcrest High School.
  • Recruit, enroll, and orient students into workforce development programs.
  • Prepare students for internships through career readiness workshops, résumé development, interview preparation, financial literacy, and workplace professionalism.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with employers, school personnel, students, and families.
  • Conduct regular worksite visits and monitor participant attendance, performance, and progress.
  • Support students in resolving workplace concerns while providing coaching and mentorship.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Extended Day After-School Program.
  • Coordinate academic enrichment, homework assistance, STEM activities, leadership development, arts, wellness, and recreational programming.
  • Develop engaging monthly activity calendars and schedules.
  • Organize student events, college visits, field trips, guest speakers, career exploration activities, and family engagement events.
  • Ensure students participate in safe, structured, and meaningful programming.
  • Build positive and supportive relationships with students and families.
  • Promote positive youth development and restorative practices.
  • Address behavioral concerns appropriately while encouraging student growth.
  • Connect students and families with school and community resources as needed.
  • Foster student leadership, civic engagement, and personal development.
  • Maintain accurate participant files, attendance records, and program documentation.
  • Track enrollment, participation, outcomes, and performance metrics.
  • Complete required reports and data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist the Program Manager in meeting contractual and performance goals.
  • Monitor program inventory and coordinate purchasing requests.
  • Assist with supervising tutors, activity specialists, interns, and program assistants.
  • Support onboarding and training of part-time staff.
  • Coordinate staff schedules and ensure appropriate daily program coverage.
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison between Queens Community House, Hillcrest High School, families, and community partners.
  • Participate in school meetings, family engagement events, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Build relationships with employers, colleges, and community organizations that expand opportunities for students.
