Job summary

Federal Express Corporation is seeking an afternoon yard switcher to support the movement of trailers and package handling in the yard and at doors. You will coordinate with management for trailer moves, perform inspections, and ensure safe handling of packages.

This role requires a valid driver’s license, ability to read labels and use scanners, and the capacity to work in a fast-paced team environment. E-Verify participation and equal opportunity employment are included.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Moves trailers between yard and doors; performs hooking and yard switching.
• Coordinates trailer movements with management or central control.
• Documents trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Performs package handling duties as needed; loads and unloads packages from vehicles and conveyors.
• Assists with sorting packages by scanning labels and reading charts.
