Job summary

TANN Corporation in Kaukauna, Wisconsin is seeking an Aftermarket Applications Engineer to bridge technical and commercial sides of aftermarket services, including rebuilds, upgrades, retrofits, and engineering studies. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or a related technical field), OR a high school diploma or equivalent plus prior experience in capital equipment installation or maintenance.
  • 0-1+ years of combined experience in applications or sales engineering, particularly in the aftermarket or capital equipment sector.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial systems, components, and processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent) for interpreting and modifying technical drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including customer interaction and technical documentation.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (20-30%) for site visits, customer meetings, or field support.
  • Able to accurately measure distance, diameter, airflow, temperature, and similar parameters.
  • Communicates and works effectively with other departments and team members.
  • Able to prioritize and work on multiple projects at one time in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints, layouts, bills of materials, PLC programs, P&IDs, and other types of work orders and instructions.
  • Understands safety practices and procedures and continually implements them in the workplace or while working remotely, maintaining a low risk tolerance and high risk awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer needs and provide technical solutions for system modifications, performance enhancements, or replacements.
  • Prepare detailed technical proposals, drawings, and cost estimates for aftermarket sales opportunities.
  • Develop costing for technical solutions, including equipment sizing, component selection, fabrication cost, and installation requirements.
  • Author well-defined scope of work documents and drawings outlining project requirements.
  • Create high-quality proposal documents for company and customer approval.
  • Seek feedback and identify opportunities for new products and services.
  • Track actual vs. planned project costs, adjusting accordingly to stay within budget.
  • Provide excellent customer service, at customer locations and at the corporate office, to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Create and present information to customers about TANN products and services.
  • Complete FID testing at customer locations to verify equipment function.
  • Complete in-house testing of customer samples to select appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with sales and service teams to ensure accurate interpretation of customer requirements.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and customers post-installation or during troubleshooting.
  • Analyze field data and historical performance to recommend optimization strategies.

TANN Corporation, a world leader in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of air pollution control equipment, is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Aftermarket Applications Engineer to join our team. This role bridges the technical and commercial sides of our aftermarket services business, including rebuilds, upgrades, retrofits, and engineering studies.

The Aftermarket Applications Engineer works with customers to identify project scope, develop solutions, and deliver high-quality proposals. This position requires 20%-30% travel for site visits, customer meetings, or field support.

What You'll Do

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of experience in the industrial air pollution control, thermal oxidizer, or heat recovery industry, including engineering support for air pollution control, thermal oxidizers, or heat recovery systems.
  • Hands-on experience with aftermarket sales, field retrofits, or capital equipment lifecycle support.
  • Familiarity with combustion systems, fans and ducting design, piping systems, and controls integration.
  • Prior experience supporting industrial clients in food, chemical, pharmaceutical, painting/coating, automotive, wood products, or ethanol sectors.
  • Field service or commissioning experience, especially in troubleshooting or optimizing thermal processing equipment.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-disciplinary engineering teams and collaborate with fabrication, installation, and service crews.
