Job summary

Salem Montessori School in Salem, VA is hiring a Part-time Aftercare Elementary Assistant to support children after the school day. You will help create a safe, welcoming environment, assist with outdoor play, homework, and community-building activities, and model Montessori-inspired care.

Ideal candidates are 18+, have a High School Diploma or GED, CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain), and prior experience with children.

SMS is currently hiring for a Part‑time elementary aftercare assistant

Your Role as an Aftercare Elementary Assistant

As our Aftercare Elementary Assistant, you will help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children can relax, connect, and continue learning through meaningful activities at the end of the school day. Working as part of our collaborative team, you will support elementary students through outdoor play, creative projects, homework assistance, and community‑building experiences while fostering independence, responsibility, and respect. If you enjoy working with children, value teamwork, and are passionate about creating positive experiences that reflect Montessori principles, we would love to welcome you to our community.

Expectations:

• Monday‑Friday
• 15‑20 hours per week
• Hours available 2:30 pm‑5:30 pm
• Ability to be on your feet
• Ability to lift and move
• Ability to conduct chores apart from child care

Requirements:

• Ages 18 or older
• High School Diploma or GED
• CPR and First Aid Certified or willing to be certified
• Experience with children (preferred)
