Job summary

The YMCA seeks a part-time Youth Counselor in Raleigh to lead and engage youth in a safe, supportive environment. Under supervision, you will plan activities, foster positive relationships, and align with YMCA mission and policies.

Responsibilities include supervising groups, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and maintaining equipment and communication with staff and partners. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 3:30–6 p.m., at 1603 Hillsborough Street.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience with children or teens is preferred but not required.
• Experience in outdoor education, activities planning, crafts, music, sports, or recreational games is a plus.
• Ability to relate well to diverse groups in the community.
• Multilingual ability is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and build relationships with a group of elementary and/or middle school students.
• Implement activities that are culturally relevant and aligned with YMCA values.
• Create a fun, safe, friendly, and challenging atmosphere.
• Mentor and model responsible behavior for campers.
• Maintain positive relationships with youth, parents, school staff, and YMCA staff.
