Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Youth Development Teacher to work with youth in a community care setting, delivering engaging activities and safe supervision for ages 5 to 12. You will lead program planning under the Site Supervisor, fostering growth and citizenship in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18+ and a high school graduate.
  • 12 units in Child Development or related field completed with passing grades.
  • Minimum 6 months work in child/youth development or education preferred.
  • Basic English speaking/reading/writing; additional languages desirable.
  • Criminal background check and health clearances required.

Responsibilities

  • Implement age-appropriate program activities for 5–12 year olds.
  • Actively supervise participants ensuring guidance and safety.
  • Communicate professionally with families, school personnel, and partners.
  • Coordinate with school staff to align academic activities.
  • Provide positive behavior guidance and support development.
  • Ensure space is maintained, clean, and safe daily.
  • Follow emergency procedures and lead assigned aides.
