Job summary

Beacons Center Youth Counselor position at Beacons Learning Center in Hmong International Academy, Minneapolis Public Schools / YWCA Minneapolis. Part-time role 1:30PM–5:30PM (school year) with Summer hours subject to change. Pay range $17.50–$18.50 per hour, location at HIA, Minneapolis.

Focus on youth in grades K-5, offering academic enrichment and supportive programming. Responsibilities include planning activities, recruiting participants, maintaining a safe learning environment, and

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• One year of experience working with youth from low-income and inner-city families.
• One year of experience planning and facilitating effective, structured groups.
• Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
• Ability to carry out duties independently, as well as in team setting.
• Ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
• Belief in the mission of the YWCA Minneapolis and able to convey its importance.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and facilitate age appropriate educational activities.
• Support in recruiting and maintaining program participants.
• Help develop and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Support communication and retention with participants and families.
• Track program attendance daily and enter information into database.
• Participate in trainings and Beacons program team meetings.
• Additional duties as assigned.
