YWCA Minneapolis is seeking a Beacons Center Youth Counselor for the Beacons Learning Center at Hmong International Academy in Minneapolis. This part-time, non-exempt role supports after-school academic and enrichment activities for K-5 students, fostering positive decisions and a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include planning and facilitating youth activities, assisting with participant recruitment, tracking attendance, and participating in team meetings.

Now Hiring: Beacons Center Youth Counselor Hourly Pay Range: $17.50 – $18.50 Status: Part-Time Location: Hmong International Academy (HIA) , Minneapolis Public Schools / YWCA Minneapolis

What You’ll Do:

As a Beacons Center Youth Counselor , you’ll provide direct service to participants in the Beacons Learning Center at Hmong International Academy. Beacons provides afte r - school academic and enrichment opportunities with a focus on inspiring youth to make positive decisions for themselves and their futures to students in grades K-5 .

  • Plan, prepare and facilitate /co-facilitate age appropriate and culturally informed educational activities utilizing and/or creating Youth Development curriculum
  • Support in recruiting and maintaining program participant
  • Help develop and maintain a safe learning environment that is student-centered, mission-focused, and accessible to a diverse student body
  • Support communication and retention with participants and families Track program attendance daily and enter information into database on regular basis
  • Participate in educational activities and trainings for professional and programmatic development including attending and participat ing in departmental and Beacons program team meetings
  • Additional duties as assigned
Schedule

School Year: Monday – Thursday – 1:30PM - 5:30PM

Summer: Hours subject to change based on summer activities and program need

Requirements
Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • One year of experience working with youth from low-income and inner-city families
  • One year of experience planning and facilitating effective, structured groups
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to carry out duties independently, as well as in team setting
  • Ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Belief in the mission of the YWCA Minneapolis and able to convey its importance
