Job summary

YWCA Minneapolis is hiring a Beacons Center Youth Counselor at Franklin Middle School in Minneapolis for after-school academic and enrichment activities for grades 6-8. You will plan and facilitate youth activities, recruit participants and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.

The role is part-time with hours 3:00 PM–6:00 PM, Monday through Thursday during the school year, with summer hours subject to program needs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year of experience working with youth from low-income and inner-city families.
  • Experience planning and facilitating structured groups.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and facilitate age-appropriate educational activities.
  • Support in recruiting and maintaining program participants.
  • Create a safe, student-centered learning environment.
  • Track attendance and enter data into database.
  • Participate in trainings and team meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Now Hiring: Beacons Center Youth Counselor

Hourly Pay Range: $17.50 – $18.50

Status: Part-Time

Location: Franklin Middle School, Minneapolis Public Schools / YWCA Minneapolis

What You’ll Do:

As a Beacons Center Youth Counselor, you’ll provide direct service to participants in the Beacons Learning Center at Franklin Middle School. Beacons provides after-school academic and enrichment opportunities with a focus on inspiring youth to make positive decisions for themselves and their futures to students in grades 6-8 th.

  • Plan, prepare and facilitate/co-facilitate age appropriate and culturally informed educational activities utilizing and/or creating Youth Development curriculum
  • Support in recruiting and maintaining program participants
  • Help develop and maintain a safe learning environment that is student-centered, mission-focused, and accessible to a diverse student body
  • Support communication and retention with participants and families Track program attendance daily and enter information into database on regular basis
  • Participate in educational activities and trainings for professional and programmatic development including attending and participating in departmental and Beacons program team meetings
  • Additional duties as assigned

Schedule

School Year: Monday – Thursday –3:00PM - 6:00PM

Summer: Hours subject to change based on summer activities and program need

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • One year of experience working with youth from low-income and inner-city families
  • One year of experience planning and facilitating effective, structured groups
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to carry out duties independently, as well as in team setting
  • Ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Belief in the mission of the YWCA Minneapolis and able to convey its importance
