Job summary

Presidio Knolls School is seeking enthusiastic and experienced After School Teachers for the Elementary and Middle School Programs. The position is part-time and reports to the Auxiliary Program Director.

Afterschool runs from class dismissal to extended care dismissal, in a school setting in San Francisco, CA. The role requires positive engagement with students, development of open-ended activities, and supervision with safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree, or in the process of obtaining preferred.
• At least 6 months teaching experience desirable.
• Contagious enthusiasm and charisma, the ability to engage and inspire students, parents and colleagues.
• Fluency in Mandarin is preferred.
• Knowledge of Progressive Education preferred.
• Strong knowledge of child development and a passion to grow in the field.
• A commitment to reflective practice, and an openness to continual professional development.
• Proficiency of verbal and written communication.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Must have or be able to attain authorization to work in the US without sponsorship by PKS; and Must be able to pass a Livescan background check permitting employment in a school / child care facility.

Responsibilities

• Interact with children using positive, supportive, respectful and open-minded attitude, language and tone.
• Design daily activities to create daily open-ended activities which encourage questioning, problem solving, language, creativity, and concept forming in young children.
• Maintain visual and auditory supervision of children at all times to ensure their safety in the classroom, on the playground, and when navigating the campus.
• Support children to build critical and creative thinking skills through inquiry, observation and experimentation.
• Support children’s social and emotional growth and development.
• Maintain clean, organized play areas and complete assigned closing duties.
• Communicate promptly with the Auxiliary team about injuries, behavioral concerns, attendance discrepancies, and other student needs.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and confirm students’ locations during transitions and handoffs.
• Attend monthly team meetings and required training sessions.
• Performs other duties as directed.
