Job summary

City of Jacksonville's Recreation Department is seeking a friendly Recreation Program Assistant to support after-school programs and summer activities throughout the community.

You will help supervise and lead participants, plan events, and maintain records in a safe environment. The role includes afternoon hours and possible mornings for special needs or events, with a focus on reliable service to 190 students.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and 6 months to 2 years experience in organized recreational programs.
• Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
• General knowledge of recreational activities, safety and ability to guide groups.

Responsibilities

• Assist with operation and services at a recreation center; planning and supervising special events, activities and participants; preparing and maintaining records and files.
• Supervise daily operations of classes and activities and assist with coordination of arts, crafts, summer, after school, educational and athletic programs.
• Transport program participants on field trips and other outings; provide information on upcoming activities; supervise rental events at the recreation center.
• Lead and instruct groups in games, sports and other recreational activities and resolve disputes with fairness.
• Perform related tasks as required.
