Job summary

The YMCA of Greenwich seeks a part-time Program Supervisor for School Age Childcare to lead a warm, safe classroom and support a holistic program with the Site Director.

Candidates should have First Aid/CPR/AED, strong punctuality, and knowledge of child development. A high school diploma or higher with relevant experience is required, with several education paths accepted by the program.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or willing to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex, critical problem solving independently.
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn appropriate child development techniques.
  • Demonstrated track record of timeliness and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children, promote learning opportunities, and lead activities in conjunction with the Site Director at an assigned site.
  • Assist the Site Director in planning and implementing a holistic curriculum for a given site or sites that reflects Y values.
  • Role model acceptable behaviors and decision-making for participants and peers.
  • Actively participate in all related in-services, trainings, and activities.
  • Utilize appropriate guidance and developmental techniques with participants to create an orderly environment that is conducive to learning and child safety.
  • Provide substitute coverage to other sites on an as needed basis.
  • Enforce and support the policies contained in the Y Parent Guide, Behavior Management Guide, and Staff Handbook.

Under the direction of the Site Director, the Program Supervisor is responsible for providing a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment, where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected. The Program Supervisor provides the direct leadership and supervision to the assigned classroom, staff and children. Programs must serve same ages and developmental stages (Kindergarten-8th grade) as those served in this program.Twelve (12) credits in early childhood education or child development, elementary education, recreation, group social work, or a related filed from an accredited institution of higher education.B.A four year college degree in early childhood education or child development.At least 360 hours of documented supervised experience with unrelated children of the same ages to be served and with these or comparable standards plus at least one semester of student teaching with children of same ages/developmental stage as those to be served.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
