Job summary

The Town of Huntersville is seeking an After School Program Assistant at the Huntersville Recreation Center to lead K-5th grade students in activities, games, crafts, and homework support after school.

Shift is Monday through Friday 2:30pm–6:00pm, with potential full days during teacher workdays. Reports to the Recreation Assistant and Coordinator; role includes safety, supervision, and parent communication.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of childcare practices and techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of health, safety and first aid practices.

Responsibilities

• Assists Recreation Manager and Recreation Assistants with camp or afterschool programs.
• Organizes rooms and materials before participants arrive each day.
• Plans and leads snack time, group activities, and assists with homework or other activities as needed.
• Actively participates with participants, supervising conduct, discipline and safety.
• Follows check in/out procedures and communicates with parents during pick up.
• Notifies supervisor of accidents or disciplinary actions and documents as needed.
• May assist with other recreation programs including overnight teen camping trips, sports practices, events, and/or childcare during adult classes.
• Ensures safety and supervision of all participants.
• Prepares and cleans the recreation center before and after program hours.
